On Saturday 1st May 2004, the Scouts were challenged to 'break free' from the Scout Hut.  They had 4 hours (which included a 15 minute break for dinner) to get as far away aspossible.  16 Scouts took the challenge and were split into 2 teams.

Results
The winning Team was 'Yellow' who manged to complete 'as the crown flys' just under 6 miles.  The Red Team completed 5.5 miles so there was not much in it.

The instructions that were given were as follows:-

Aims

• You need to get to all of the locations below and photograph your team there.  These can be situated anywhere. You do not need to get to any specific instance of the above.

• Post Box

• Church

• Telephone

• Minor Road

• Public Footpath

• Public Bridleway

• Bridge

• Once you have found all of the required locations and photographed them, you need to get as far away from the start point as possible.

• Teams will need to contact the base via their adult guide (who will phone in) every 30mins with your team name and location (Six figure grid reference).

• Teams will have to take a 30 mins lunch break at the specified time by their adult guide

Rules
• You cannot go off of the given map.

• Stay in your team at all times. If your team is seen to be separated at any time, you will have 1/4 mile deducted from your total distance.

• If you are seen working with any other team you will have ¼ mile deducted from total distance.

• You adult guide is there just to keep and eye on you and for contact purposes, they will not help you in planning the route

• Please walk in single file along any roads.

• Each team will have 4 hours to complete the challenge.

• At the end of the challenge the team that has got the furthest ‘As the crow fly’s’ will be the winners.

• At the end of the challenge, after you location has been phoned in, you are to make your way to the nearest road and await pick up.
